Rescue Me ID: 17-06-19-00221Penny (female)

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sweet Penny come to PAWS as a stray one night. Volunteers were at the PAWS storage unit when she came cowering from around the corner looking for food and water. She was emaciated, anemic, in heat, and had scars and bruises on her legs and neck where it looked like she had been chained up for a while on a cement pad. We're not sure if she got loose or was dumped off, but PAWS took her in and nursed her back to health. Penny is loving, playful, friendly, independent, affectionate, and energetic! She is very strong and will knock you or your children down if you're not careful. In her utter joy and happiness, she wants to run between the legs ... (Read More)of people and animals and jumps up on people, but we're working to correct this behavior. Penny loves to run and play with other dogs, and has shown no aggression towards people or other animals. She is very energetic, and we believe since she was chained up for so long and is now free, in perfect health, and no longer so physically weak, that she wants to rejoice and run around every chance she gets! Penny barks if someone or something new comes into her line of sight, but will stop if instructed to do so and we're working with her to make her feel more comfortable in these situations. She is eager to learn and just wants to lick you, love you, and be loved on. If you throw something, she'll chase it, but hasn't learned to bring it back to you yet. She loves her chew toys and bones. Penny is working on house training, but will need more time, work, and a regular schedule from her new owners. She's not completely used to a crate, but PAWS has been slowly introducing her to it and allowing her to spend short periods of time in one each day. We're working on her leash training as she pulls a lot, but she's showing good signs of improvement each day. Penny would do best with experienced dog owners who are willing to work on developing good habits, and on house, crate, and leash training. She needs plenty of opportunities for exercise and running and would do best being paired with a canine companion of equal energy. She should be supervised around small children, but would do better with older children due to her size and strength. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-04-00110Strawberry (male)

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Strawberry! I find myself very macho, so I'm a bit embarrassed by this dainty name (the little dogs laugh at me when I walk past them in the most infuriating way.) But I'm definitely as sweet as a strawberry, and I'm not afraid to show it. Even though I'm 2 years old, I'm still very puppyish, and I love to play! At 65 pounds, I'm a big boy, but I know you're never too big for a good game of tug-a-war. I love human attention, and am very proud when I feel like I've made you happy. I am a medium energy pooch, and love to go on new adventures! I would make a great running or hiking partner. I've been told that I look like a little ... (Read More)tiger, and it's true. I have a brown/rust colored coat with brindle stripes and white paws. I wouldn't look too out of place in a lush jungle, sleeping on a overhanging branch (I would have much prefered my name to be Tiger, but I've got what I've got.) If you're looking for a happy-go-lucky boy who will turn an ordinary day into one filled with wags and snuggles, I'm the pup for you! (Less)

Animal ID: 1243Caballo (male)

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

So you're looking for a new pooch? What a coincidence, I'm looking for a special human (If that isn't meant to be, I don't know what is!) My name is Caballo. I'm a three year old Staffordshire/ Pitbull terrier mix. At fifty-five pounds, I'm a large dog, but I'm just a teddy bear. I'm a high energy boy, so I would do best with an active family who is ready to take me on all of their adventures! My name means horse in Spanish, and it suits me. I have long lanky legs and a big head, and am full of boundless energy! I love human attention and being petted. I am very excitable when I'm initially taken out of my kennel, but once I get my energy ... (Read More)out I settle down. I am very friendly, and love everyone I meet! My favorite thing to do is to run, so I would make a great running or hiking partner. I am also pretty good looking, if I don't say so myself. My big perky ears are adorable, and my tail never stops wagging! I'm a very pretty and unusual color, and I have a soft coat. And I'm pretty photogenic, don't you think? I am already neutered and up to date on all my vaccinations, so I'm ready for my new forever home. There's no reason I shouldn't be your new best friend! If you've been searching for an energetic, affectionate boy who will always stick by your side, I'm the pup for you! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-25-00480Wiggles (female)

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Wiggles is a beautiful (inside and out), Blue Pit girl who came to PAWS as a surrender when her owner had to move. She was about to give birth but, unfortunately, all her puppies passed from an undetermined medical condition and no pre-natal care, so she was very sad for a while. However, with lots of love from her foster family, she has blossomed once again into a great dog! Her personality is playful, friendly, independent, affectionate, and energetic. She has never displayed any signs of aggression towards people or animals. She wants nothing more than to be loved on and love on someone. Wiggles loves to play, run, and go for walks. She ... (Read More)also loves to lay around and be a couch potato so she has the perfect mixture of both qualities. Wiggles seems really energetic at first, but she just gets excited to meet new people and will calm down quite a bit. She is somewhat active and her exercise needs are average so she would just need daily walks and play/run time with her people or canine companions. She is somewhat vocal, but not considered a nuisance barker. Wiggles is being fostered with other dogs ranging from small to large size and is playful and friendly towards all of them. She is friendly with cats, but also ignores them. Wiggles is also living with two boys, 3 and 4 YO, and is wonderful with them. She has never knocked anyone over (although these things can happen accidentally) and plays very gently and age appropriately. She absolutely has the 'nanny' characteristics you look for in a dog. Wiggles does well playing in her 20 x 40 kennel and does not want to jump or dig out. When traveling in a car, she is calm and quiet. She gets super excited for walks and is a great motivator! Wiggles loves to run around with you, likes to fetch toys, and really enjoys playing with other dogs who can challenge her in tug a war! She also likes to bring her blankets out and lay in the sun and catch some rays! Wiggles is house trained and will get in a crate, but doesn't really like it. She is leash trained, but still pulls a little and likes to lead the walk and go where she wants to go so her foster is continuing to work on that. She's not left alone much during the day and suffers no separation anxiety. Wiggles would do well with an active individual or family who have other canine companions or where she would have regular interactions with other dogs. She knows basic commands and aims to please. Wiggles is just a delight and would be an amazing addition to any family! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-06-21-00279Diesel (male)

Staffordshire Bull Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi I'm Diesel. I am a 3 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier male. I am up to date on my vaccinations, neutered and on preventatives. I am microchipped, I have been dewormmed, and I am heart worm negative. I am a sweet boy who loves to play especially with balls. I get along with people, kids and animals but not too crazy about Squirrels. I am very energetic and need a home where I can have lots of room and play time everyday. I am a smart boy, I have my basic obedience such as sit and stay. I am house trained and I love getting groomed, getting a bath and swimming. I love to take walks, snuggle, co-sleep and riding in the car. I love to play ... (Read More)fetch and will play it all day if you let me. I can walk on a leash but sometimes pull (Just need a little practice ). I do have a sensitivity to grains and need to be fed a grain free diet. I am a loving dog just looking for my forever home.I am fearful of small children and would do best in a home with adults only or adults with older children. I am a registered service dog with my main skill set in PTSD/Anxiety. Do you think you can be my forever family? Contact For The Love of Dogs Rescue at FTLODNC@gmail.com or call 704-402-0622 for an application to adopt me. As my bio says, I am a registered Service Dog. Something awful happened to my previous owner and I was in the wind for about two months. NOBODY knows what happened to me in that time but when I was found I had some pretty bad scars on my face, neck and ears. It appears that I had been in a few scraps with other dogs maybe? I am not an aggressive dog at all, I have always been a very gentle dog and open and friendly to everyone. Since returning I am a little fearful and very watchful. I am retired from service work now. I will always have the skill sets and it is my natural tendency to be a velcro doggie with my human. The rescue feels that it is better to be safe than sorry and let me live out the rest of my life as a family companion dog. If you feel that you have room in your heart and home for me, please do not hesitate to email FTLOD@RoadRunner.com for an adoption application. There is an adoption process. 1. You request an adoption application (email FTLOD@RoadRunner.com to request an application). 2. Your references and Vet reference will be checked, (your answers will be matched up with the particular dog - and others that are available). 3. IF all is well, a Home Visit will be scheduled. Sometimes a video or photos will be allowed. any issues will be identified and addressed. 4. IF all that has been done and it's all good then a Meet and Greet would be scheduled, IF that goes well then... You would be able to sign the adoption contract, pay the adoption fee (or make prior arrangements) and take me to my new forever home. It sounds like a lot - and maybe it is... but the Rescue only has my best interest at heart and they want to ensure that the family that takes me home is a good fit for my personality, temperament and that I have the best possible chances for a successful forever placement. So please don't be hesitant to put a little effort into bringing me, or one of my other rescue pals into your home. Thank You for considering Rescue over breeders. Normally my adoption fee would be the flat rate of $675 as a working dog but the rescue just wants to make sure that I go into the right kind of home and that I will never have to worry about something happening to me again. My adoption fee has been reduced to $450 as a Very Trained Personal Companion Dog. (Less)
